Street Sweeping for Spring 2011
Today, March 1, is the first day of the new, expanded residential street sweeping program. In neighborhoods where signs advise motorists of parking restrictions during sweeping hours, parking enforcement will go into effect Monday, March 21. This will allow residents and others to become accustomed to moving their cars again. The program is expanding to encompass all residential neighborhoods; however, if there are no signs indicating parking restrictions for street sweeping, motorists do not have to move their cars. In these neighborhoods, sweeping will move from every four to six weeks to twice-a-month.

Update on Shaed Education Campus
After public comments and further studies on the Shaed Education Campus, Kaya Henderson (Interim Chancellor for DCPS) has made a decision to request that Mayor Gray close Shaed at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
Below are the two (2) documents that feature the reasons for a closure being requested as well as responses to general questions and concerns moving forward.

From the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services
From: Kenyon Churchwell
Good morning,
My name is Kenyon Churchwell and I am working in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services with Mr. Fimbres and Mr. Glaude and will be focusing my efforts on Ward 5. Major avenues should be cleared by now, but side streets are a work in progress. Alley ways will not be cleared. Please notify me of any issues (unplowed roads, loss of power, etc) and I will work to get things cleared as quickly as possible. My email address is kenyon.churchwell@dc.gov. Thank you.
Good Morning,
If you or any of your neighbors are experiencing extreme difficulties as a result of the snow, please let me know. If you know of any temporarily or permanently disabled neighbors who need help in emergency times such as these, let me know as well.
I am working to get a handle on who needs help and I want to create a list going forward so that a response can be provided to those in need.
If you know of anyone in this position, please email me at silas_grant@yahoo.com. Also, if you would like to volunteer and assist in a response effort, I am welcoming that effort as well.
